I M Teppanyaki & Wine is on the first floor of SL Ginza on Electric Road in Tin Hau, just east of Causeway Bay. Chef Lawrence Mok opened his own teppanyaki restaurant in 2013 after three decades in other kitchens, and moved to this larger, darker room in 2021. It has held one Michelin star since 2017.
Mok's cooking is simple: premium ingredients flown in daily from Japan and France, such as sea urchin, abalone and blue lobster, cooked on the griddle with little interference. Set menus at lunch and multi-course dinner menus lead the way, with past dishes including amadai with sea urchin cream and lobster with brown-meat sauce. Lunch costs about HK$400 and dinner about HK$1,680 per person.
It suits diners who enjoy wine, as the list leans towards Burgundy and Bordeaux with some sake. A private room seats eight. Book through inline, by phone or on WhatsApp.
Menus, prices and seatings change and many counters book out, so please check with the restaurant before you go.
