Tenshima is a tempura counter in Millenia Walk, next to its sister sushi restaurant Sushi Sakuta. Head chef Takahiro Shima cooks behind a Japanese cypress counter in a room finished with granite and washi motifs, and copper equipment in the kitchen. Service is limited to ten guests at lunch and ten at dinner. It entered the Michelin Guide with one star in 2026.
Each piece is fried to order, with the batter thickness and oil temperature adjusted to the size and moisture of the day's ingredients, which are flown in from Japan several times a week. The coating is light and pale gold, and pieces are seasoned with selected salts. On TableCheck, lunch omakase costs S$198 or S$280, with a S$450 special; dinner omakase is S$450. The Shima-Sakuta menu at S$550 combines tempura with sushi from Sushi Sakuta.
Suited to anyone who wants to see tempura cooked by a specialist at close range. Book on TableCheck or by email. Lunch is served Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday to Sunday; dinner Tuesday to Sunday, with last seating at 8pm.
Menus, prices and seatings change and many counters book out, so please check with the restaurant before you go.
