Ginza Tenharu is the Bangkok branch of an Edo-style tempura shop in Tokyo's Ginza 1-chome, which also has outposts in Singapore and Jakarta. It sits on the third floor of Gaysorn Village on Ploenchit Road, on the same floor as its sister restaurant Ginza Sushi Ichi, with about a dozen seats at a pale wood counter facing the fryer.
Each course is fried piece by piece in front of guests. At dinner the Uguisu course (4,000 baht) runs through kuruma ebi, sea urchin with seaweed, seasonal seafood and vegetables and the chef's choice of scallop, abalone or oyster, then a rice set of tendon, tencha or tendashi and dessert. The Hanami course (5,000 baht) adds items such as A5 wagyu, and the Tubame course (6,500 baht) includes uni tatami. Lunch runs from 3,500 baht. Prices exclude 10% service and 7% VAT.
Good for diners who want a change from sushi, or a lighter counter lunch in the shopping district. Book through Chope or by phone; children must be eight or older. Closed on Mondays.
Menus, prices and seatings change and many counters book out, so please check with the restaurant before you go.
