Tenko Omakase is the Japanese counter inside the Pullman Bangkok King Power on Rangnam Road, near Victory Monument. It follows the kappo tradition, with cooks preparing each dish in front of guests at the counter. The kitchen is led by chef Aitsara Praphamonthon, and the restaurant also works with Japanese chef Satoshi Sawada, who has more than 30 years in Japanese cooking.
Menus mix cooked kappo dishes with sushi. Lunch offers 9 courses for 1,690 baht or 12 courses with nigiri for 2,900 baht. At dinner there is a 12-course menu for 3,500 baht, a 14-course menu for 5,500 baht and a 16-course menu for 7,500 baht; prices are net. Recent dishes have included Kumamoto oysters, ankimo mousse toast, potato mochi and akinasu with duck soboro, with the menu changing by season.
A good-value option for those staying near Phaya Thai or Ratchathewi, and an easier booking than the better-known sushi counters. Reserve through the restaurant website or by phone; dinner has two sittings, at 17:30 and 20:00. Closed on Mondays.
Menus, prices and seatings change and many counters book out, so please check with the restaurant before you go.
