Baba IKI is the Japanese restaurant at Sri Panwa, the hillside resort on Cape Panwa in south-east Phuket. The long room has a sushi bar and teppanyaki counter beneath strings of lights, with windows over the Andaman Sea, plus indoor and outdoor seating. The menu was first created with Thai Iron Chef Boontham Parkpho, who is also behind Honmono in Bangkok.
Alongside teppanyaki and à la carte dishes, the kitchen runs a chef's-choice omakase in three sittings a day, prepared course by course in front of guests. Fish is imported from Japan, with maguro, shima-aji, madai and kinmedai among the regular cuts. The 12-course Signature Omakase costs 3,900 baht and the 15-course Premium Signature Omakase 5,555 baht, both plus service and tax.
Best for resort guests and visitors staying in the south-east of the island who want a sushi meal with a sea view. Book at least an hour ahead by phone or email; walk-ins are accepted when seats are free. The resort has other bars and restaurants on site for a drink before or after.
Menus, prices and seatings change and many counters book out, so please check with the restaurant before you go.
