Ginza Sushi Ichi began in Tokyo's Ginza district and has branches across Asia; the Jakarta outpost sits on the second floor of Pullman Jakarta Indonesia on Jalan Thamrin. The room is built around a pale wood counter facing a traditional ice chest, and a team of Japanese sushi chefs works behind it.
The omakase comes in two lengths at lunch and dinner: 12 courses at about Rp3,500,000 and 16 courses at about Rp4,500,000, before tax and service. Fish arrives from Tokyo, and the sequence moves from small cooked dishes and sashimi to nigiri such as uni, ikura and, in season, horsehair crab. There is no vegetarian menu and children must be over six.
For a classic Edomae meal in central Jakarta. Closed Mondays; book by phone or WhatsApp. Ginza Tenharu, the group's six-seat tempura counter, shares the floor.
Menus, prices and seatings change and many counters book out, so please check with the restaurant before you go.
