Sushi Masa is on the first floor of Menara Hap Seng 3 on Jalan P. Ramlee. It is an extension of Sushi Masa Ishibashi in Ginza, owned by chef Masakazu Ishibashi, and brings his Edomae approach, rooted in a 200-year-old tradition, to Kuala Lumpur. Day to day, the counter is run by his apprentice, Chef Yoshi.
The menu is a multi-course omakase with creative takes on traditional dishes and nigiri made from produce sourced from Japan. The Michelin Guide notes a botan ebi with egg-yolk sauce and caviar. Miyabi costs RM988 for three appetisers, ten nigiri, a torotaku handroll, tamago, miso soup and dessert. The RM1,288 Omakase adds an uni and ikura rice bowl, toro sukiyaki and eleven nigiri. Both are served at lunch and dinner, and steamed abalone is an add-on.
Masa suits diners who want Ginza-style sushi in the city centre without travelling to a hotel. Book through the online system or by phone, and ask about seasonal add-ons when reserving.
Menus, prices and seatings change and many counters book out, so please check with the restaurant before you go.
