Sushi Ori is set back from the main road in the podium of Menara Keck Seng on Jalan Bukit Bintang. It was opened in 2019 by its eponymous Japanese chef, who has lived in Malaysia for more than ten years, and his wife, who runs the front of house. Fish, condiments and even the tableware are imported from Japan.
Seasonal produce arrives from Japan three times a week. The shari uses Akita rice and red vinegar made from sake lees, in the Edomae tradition. At lunch the Omakase and Omakase Nigiri sets cost RM382 each; at dinner Kohaku costs RM780 and the larger Hisui RM980, plus service and tax. Hisui must be booked at least a week ahead because of stock.
Ori suits diners who want a traditional, quiet sushi counter at a lower price than the hotel counters. Counter dinners start together at 6pm or 8pm, children under 12 are not seated at the counter and a refundable RM100 deposit is taken per person. Private rooms are also available.
Menus, prices and seatings change and many counters book out, so please check with the restaurant before you go.

Counters are small and book out, so reserve ahead.
